What to do on Christmas Eve Eve

Am sitting here. Should I watch the slightly lesser football bowl games? One of several basketball matches? There is a Dolly Parton childhood film. I have suggestions for streaming programs. Two of my favorites are For All Mankind and final episodes of Doc Martin.

The Blog Is Back

It raining again. Great to have the rain and snow. I feel bad that houses are destroyed by mudslides and caving riverbanks. Just read that hurricane may have an impact much further inland. If things get really awful can we go to another world? In our solar system there doesn’t seem to be habitable alternative. Europa may have liquid water under the icy surface but is probably not a good real estate investment, Pluto is too far away for effective use of solar panels. Could we find a suitable exoplanet? Just read about a red dwarf star that has a Jupiter sized planet orbiting very near it. Another unlikely refuge.

What about Mars? As a child I used to think Mars was flat and had canals. That was a long long time ago. And a much longer time ago Mars had water? Where did it go. Were its inhabitants over using it with unwise nonnative plants and gigantic lawns? Should they have invested much more into the development of a strong and lasting gravitational field? Did they consider the developing Earth near them? Now what about our sister planet Venus? It’s closer in size to Earth and was thought to be more welcoming to life than Mars. Was it populated with those who thought climate change only a political stance? It would require pressurized and air-conditioning dwellings beyond our abilities. Perhaps we should invest wisely on our dear old Earth,

Black hole at the center of our galaxy

Our galaxy’s black hole photographed

It should make us fill better about life to at last be able to see the black hole at the center of The Milky Way. I feel a little more confident in our future now. That coupled with the great pictures just starting to come from the amazing Webb telescope are amazing events. All these bring up new questions. Could NASA build a helicopter that could fly on Pluto? What if we find water falls on Mars? And finally could the two professional baseball teams in our area meet in this year’s World Series?

Sunday morning

One of the moons of Saturn which looks like the Death Star many have an ocean of water beneath its surface. Could we soon land, drill wells and grow winter crops? Closer than Pluto which probably has no ocean beneath its surface. Even closer is my backyard. My neighbor’s tall pine tree seems now ready to fall into our backyard.

Is there some relation between the two? I doubt it. Now am watching the Buccaneers v Rams game. Can Brady lead them back? Should both Pluto and our moon both be planets?

January 6, 2020

It’s a beautiful day and I am sitting in my chair hanging from a walnut tree. Read about NASA scientist who a solar shield between the sun both on Mars and Venus might allow terraforming of these to planets. I am pretty sure that it would not help in the colonization of Pluto.

Oh, the neighbor’s dog, Wednesday, is now barking at me. This made me think about the Webb telescope. And I realize that I have more weeding to do in the backyard. So then I must take leave of my writing. May our next year be better.

One Rainy Night in Eagle Rock

We have had a wet December. And some what Pluto to be a planet again again. Would our climate become more stable if Pluto regained its status? A truly big planet, ten time the size of Jupiter is orbiting around a pair of stars with much mass. Probably not a candidate for colonization.

The Webb Telescope was shown out in space halfway to its Goldilocks orbit about a million miles from Earth. Maybe we will be able to view the universe just after the Big Bang. Sure hope the telescope is able go through all the intricate steps to unfold. Now if we can only get solar panels to work on Pluto.

The Second Shot

Sitting here at Dodger Stadium parking lot waiting for COVID 19 vaccine. I think we are in the next group of 5 that will get the shot. There are other exciting events happening on the world stage. Wombats have rectangle poop and it happens because of action in the intestine.

Soon the Mars rover, Perseverance, will begin it’s decent to the surface. It’s a risky event and we won’t know if it’s successful for 7 minutes. By the time we get our shots we should know. Also we are repairing a deep space antenna in Australia to be able to communicate with Voyager 2. It is past our solar system and it takes over 17 hours for a one way message. It will take less time to get our shots.

Safe on Mars and have gotten shot before they ran out of the vaccine.
